Nigerian troops kill 11 Islamic State militants in Borno state

SW News: Nigerian troops and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) killed 11 Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) insurgents in Borno state. The operation code-named Hadin Kai was Carried out in the terrorist strongholds between Damboa and Chibok local government districts between May 31 and June 4.

Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad counterinsurgency specialist, claims that the army targeted and destroyed terrorist strongholds in the villages of Bale, Tirke, Mandari, and Molgoi. Vigilantes assisting troops have also removed terrorist safehouses in Bego, Yarwa, and Ngurna. There are reports that the military seized guns, ammo, and other supplies in a series of coordinated attacks.

Their principal objectives are to lay ambush on the military and kidnap civilians.

In the previous 14 years, Islamic insurgency in northeast Nigeria has killed 40,000 people and displaced over two million. The problem has extended to Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, necessitating regional cooperation to combat radicals.
