Bishop Barron: Real dialogue is impossible if Democrats do not protect babies who survive abortion

SW News: A bishop in the US has asked Catholic Democratic legislators who are claiming that dialogue with the bishops over abortion and the reception of Communion is the best way to deal with the Eucharist controversy to exhibit good faith by supporting, at the very least, legislation protecting babies born after a botched abortion.
In an article published in the New York Post on June 28, Bishop Robert Barron, auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles and head of Word on Fire ministries, said genuine dialogue involves some willingness to give and take, citing the reticence of the Democrats to alter even the most extreme abortion positions.
Bishop Barron said in the article titled ‘Bishop: Will Catholic Dems Support Protections for Babies Who Survive Abortion?’ that in spite of his family’s deep Democratic background, he struggles with the abortion policy of the party.
Republican Senator Ben Sasse’s Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act was filibustered by Democrats in the Senate when it was considered as part of the budget resolution on February 5 this year. Had it been passed, it would have mandated that adequate care be given to babies surviving an abortion attempt.
“I wondered, would they be agreeable to supporting born-alive legislation, designed to protect the life of a baby who has miraculously managed to survive an abortion? No, they said,” mentioned the bishop in his article.
“If protecting the life of a baby struggling to breathe, after surviving a brutal attack on his life, is a bridge too far for pro-abortion-rights politicians, then I ask again, what are we dialoguing about?”
