SW News: The American Diocese of Winona-Rochester reported that the Calvary Cemetery in Rochester was vandalized on Halloween night with several graves being defiled with disgusting words and obscene graffiti.
In this context, Bishop Robert Barron of Winona-Rochester slammed the act of vandalism. The Prelate expressed his outrage over the desecration of the cemetery and assured his prayers for the families of those dead souls whose resting places were disgraced.
The Diocese of Winona-Rochester in connection with the Police Department is working to find the culprit behind this act of vandalism.
The cemetery staff is also trying to repair and restore the damaged grounds. The Bishop promised to bless the cemetery once the restoration works are completed.
According to the latest statistics of Catholic Vote, a non-profit political advocacy group based in the United States, 103 churches were vandalized across different states this year alone.
The latest Catholic Church vandalism happened on October 30th Sunday in the city of Mountlake Terrace in the state of Washington, where several juveniles spray painted St Pius X Church with graffiti.
Mountlake Terrace Police Commander Scott King said that the surveillance video showed that the juveniles spray painted blasphemous language on a vehicle parked at the church property and then moved towards the Church.
“The word Satan with a satanic star was spray painted on the church building,” King said. “There was also something spray painted which was not legible”, he said.
Acts of vandalism targeting Catholic Churches have been on the rise in the US following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V Wade.
