SW News: Pro-life advocates in the US are rejoicing over the victory in Louisiana that has led to the closure of all the remaining abortion centers. The three remaining abortion clinics are preparing to move out after a legal battle over the state's anti-abortion laws. Closing these abortion facilities will make Louisiana a state without any such centers for the first time in 50 years.

Following the restoration of a trigger law banning abortion in Louisiana, three abortion centers in the southeastern US state filed a lawsuit to prevent it from taking effect. The state's trigger laws ban abortion in almost all cases, except in two cases. In the first case, termination of the pregnancy is allowed when there is a “medical emergency” in order to save the “pregnant woman”. Similarly, abortion is permitted when “necessary in good faith medical judgment or reasonable medical judgment” to prevent the death or “substantial risk of death” to the pregnant woman.

Louisiana's legal battle began days after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade. Soon after the verdict came, Hope Medical Group and Medical Students for Choice filed a lawsuit claiming the state's trigger law was "unconstitutional and vague". Following this, the Orleans Parish Civil District Judge Robin Giarrusso issued a temporary restraining order allowing the abortion providers to offer the same.

However, the Apex Court of the state on August 12 dismissed the appeal reinstating the abortion ban. Pro-life advocates have welcomed the exit of abortion clinics. Welcoming the decision, the executive director of Louisiana Right to Life Benjamin Clapper stated, "For the first time in almost 50 years, Louisiana will be free from businesses that exist to end the lives of precious unborn babies." He added, "These businesses will no longer inflict emotional and physical damage on women in Louisiana."
