SW News: The director of a pro-life group along with four other pro-life activists was sentenced to 45 days in jail for engaging in a “Red Rose Rescue” event at an abortion clinic in Flint, Michigan.

The Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) in a statement announced that the Director of Activism Lauren Handy was among four pro-life activists who have to spend 45 days in prison at the Genesee County Jail in Flint for being involved in an anti-abortion activity at the Women’s Center of Flint and Saginaw in 2019.

According to the organization, "Red Rose Rescue" is a "direct action in which activists enter abortion businesses, hand out life-affirming literature, red roses and offer hope and financial resources to the patients at risk of exploitation by the Abortion Industrial Complex."

Handy along with three others, William Goodman, Patrice Woodworth and Matthew Connolly was charged with disturbing the peace in the area. The anti-abortion organization remarked that the arrest was "a decision often made by nonviolent social activists who refuse to assist in their own unjust arrest." Soon after sentencing, the activists were “taken into custody.” "We are living in the midst of a genocide and it's no surprise that the institutions which allow for the exploitation and murder of thousands of unborn children in this state are inflicting further oppression onto those like Lauren, who dare to challenge their agenda," said PAAU Founder and Executive Director Terrisa Bukovinac.

On Friday, pro-life activists gathered outside the jail demanding the release of Handy and her colleagues.

Handy’s life in prison is not something novel. Earlier she and five other activists were sentenced to 30 days of imprisonment for conducting a Pink Rose Rescue at an abortion clinic in Alexandria, Virginia in 2021.
