SW News: In a shocking incident, at least five people were killed when an SUV ploughed into a Christmas Parade in Waukesha in the US state of Wisconsin on Sunday, November 21. According to initial reports, scores of people have been injured and the number is likely to go up.

Among those injured is a Catholic priest of Milwaukee Archdiocese and children attending the Waukesha Catholic School, said the archdiocese in a statement. The communication director for the archdiocese said that the prayers of the archdiocese are with the victims of the tragedy. The archdiocese also urged believers to pray for the victims and their loved ones.

According to witnesses, police opened fire at the driver as the vehicle rammed into the parade at 4.40 pm local time. The area has been cordoned off and there is a heavy police presence in the vicinity. News reports say that as many as 28 patients are receiving treatment in two local hospitals. Another 13 patients are undergoing treatment at Aurora Medical Center Summit in Waukesha. Three are in a critical state while the condition of four remains serious.

The School District of Waukesha declared a holiday on Monday as a sign of respect to the victims. Police have not ruled out the possibility of a terror angle to the attack.
