SW News: Fr Jeffrey Montz, a young priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans diagnosed with a brain tumor, is asking the faithful to pray for his healing through the intercession of Venerable Fulton J Sheen. The request was posted on the Facebook page of Our Lady of the Rosary page last month. “Fr. Jeffrey has specifically asked that we pray for his healing through the intercession of Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen in hopes that a miracle may be granted to advance the cause of Archbishop Sheen’s canonization,” the post reads.
A Facebook page, “Fr Jeffrey Montz Prayer Page”, was set up in early June to share updates on Fr Jeffrey’s health. The latest update posted on the page revealed that the recent biopsy report of Fr. Jeffrey indicates that he has a Grade 2 oligodendroglioma.
“He has appointments with a neurologist and an oncologist. Together with a team of doctors they will order some further testing and set up a treatment plan. We are hopeful that with treatment he will have many more years of service to the Lord and His people,” the update reads.
Archbishop Sheen was born on May 8, 1895, in Illinois and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Peoria in 1919. Sheen was a famous televangelist. His television series "Life is Worth Living," reached an audience of millions. He passed away on December 9, 1979, at the age of 84. The Diocese of Peoria started the cause for his canonization in 2002.
