USA’s Nampa School Board bans classroom discussion on gender identity

SW News: In the United States, the Nampa School Board of Trustees recently enacted a policy prohibiting the discussion or teaching of gender identity or sexual orientation in Nampa schools. The Board met to discuss the issue and finally accepted the policy with a 3-1 vote.
Critics have nicknamed the adopted measure in the state of Idaho the "Don't Say Gay" policy, noting parallels to a Florida statute. They contend that it is the job of parents, not instructors, to address sexual orientation and gender identity with their children.
Meanwhile, in response to the decision, the Nampa School District issued a statement emphasizing that the policy respects families and fosters open discourse regarding gender identity and sexual orientation. "We believe that parents have the right to raise their children in accordance with their beliefs, including addressing these issues," says the statement.
In the state of Florida, teaching sexuality and gender identity is prohibited in all public schools. The new law mandates that public school educators cannot provide instructions on sexual orientation or gender identity in grades K-12 unless it is required by state academic standards or is part of a reproductive health course or health lesson.
Parents also have the option to withdraw their children from such classes as per the new law. It was in March that the first version of the so-called Don’t Say Gay expansion bills were proposed by Governor Ron DeSantis’ administration. He had earlier enacted the Parental Rights in Education law more than a year ago.
Several states in the country are gunning for such laws to provide more rights to parents and to counter the spread of the gender agenda in schools.
