Filipino archbishop announces day of prayer for Myanmar

SW News: In response to the letter titled ‘An Extreme Appeal from Cardinal Bo,’ Filipino Archbishop Romulo G Valles has announced a day of prayer for Myanmar.
Archbishop of Davao and the CBCP President Monsignor Valles DD in a circular addressed to the archbishops and bishops and diocesan administrators of Philippines, appealed to include a special prayer in all Masses “for the suffering people of Myanmar and, in particular, for the Church in Myanmar,” on May 30, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.
“Let us beg the Lord for an end to this violence and for all the people concerned to be led towards the forging of peace,” appealed the archbishop. He also expressed his solidarity with the suffering people of Myanmar.
Myanmar has been ravaged by violence ever since the military seized power in a coup on February 1 and began a brutal crackdown on peaceful civilian protesters. Christians and churches have not been spared either. Cardinal Bo’s letter particularly referred to the violent attack on May 23 Pentecost Sunday, on the Sacred Heart Church in Kayanthayar, when an artillery shell exploded in the church killing four and injuring eight others.
