SW News: Amid the Covid-19 pandemic and the political turmoil and unrest in Iran, thousands of Iranian Muslims are converting to Christianity, reports CBN News.

With lockdown measures forcing people to stay indoors and the high-speed internet availability, Iranian citizens, disillusioned by Islam, have been going online to research alternatives to what their government offers, said Mike Ansari, Director of Operations of Mohabat TV to CBN News.

Ansari said that Mohabat TV is recording 10 times more online salvations than this time last year. That is around 3000 conversions each month since the pandemic began in March. "That's why we are calling this a pandemic of hope,”Ansari said.

The new converts learn about Jesus also through social media platforms and call up ministry call centers for prayer. They even make long risky journeys to get baptized.

This trend has caused the Iranian government to react by arresting and imprisoning hundreds of Christian converts. Parliamentary bills are being passed to further repress religious minorities in the country.

According to Open Doors USA, the levels of persecution in the country is ‘extreme.’ Yet, Christianity is spreading like a wildfire in Iran.
