SW News: Close on the heels of a Spanish Cathedral being profaned by shooting an indecent music video, a church in Ecuador was desecrated in a similar manner. The Chapel of Saint Joseph’s College in Guayaquil run by the La Salle brothers was profaned when a sleazy music video was recorded in the building on Friday, October 29.
The video shows three men who are scantily dressed in tight attire smoking a cigarette and holding chains. They approach two women on thrones in front of the altar in the chapel. In another scene, Venezuelan singers Virgi and Matty appear wearing swimsuits with their bodies covered in gold paint.
School authorities and the local community have slammed the obscene music video. Through a statement, the La Salle brothers said that a former student had asked them for permission to shoot an 'artistic video' in the chapel. However, they were not aware of the contents of the video script. They expressed their regret in allowing the former student to shoot the video in the sanctuary.
In their statement, the brothers also said, "We reject this and publicly ask this former student to remove these images that hurt the susceptibility of the Congregation and of the generations that in that temple deepened their spirituality in the Masses and multiple manifestations of faith typical of the Lasallian institution. Never in all the years since the existence of the institution has an absurdity happened like the one we have seen, therefore we reject it, and we absolutely condemn it."
Archbishop of Guayaquil, Mons. Luis Cabrera also slammed the incident and called it a desecration of the chapel. He said, "Unfortunately, it was a breach of trust on the part of a La Salle alumnus when he asked the temple to record some musicals without indicating their nature or genre."
Earlier last month, the cathedral of Toledo in Spain was profaned when a music video with indecent content was recorded in the sanctuary. It sparked an outrage and the rector of the cathedral, who had defended the shooting of the video, had to step down and the archdiocese apologized to the believers for the profanation. A reparatory Mass was also conducted in the cathedral.
