SW News: The Chair of the Department of Social Justice of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales Bishop Richard Moth has urged all believers to take part in the annual Love Christmas campaign that aims at donating one million boxes of food and essentials to the needy this Advent. Love Christmas is an ecumenical initiative that brings food and supplies to the poor, elderly and vulnerable people.
The prelate said that during Advent and Christmas, Catholics contemplate on the flesh of Christ and reflect on the gifts they've received from Him. Bishop Moth said he is very pleased to offer his support to the national ecumenical initiative 'Love Christmas.' "It is both timely, and much needed given the adverse impact the Covid pandemic continues to have on many people in terms of health, finances, isolation, loneliness and mental health." The prelate also cited Pope Francis’ take on Christmas, saying “God came among us in poverty and need, to tell us that in serving the poor, we will show our love for him."
In last year's 'Love Christmas' campaign, around 2,275 Christian churches pitched in and delivered about 770,000 boxes to needy people across the nation.
