SW News: Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI left the Vatican on June 18 to visit his sick brother Msgr. Georg Ratzinger, who is 96 years old, in Regensburg, Germany.

The director of the Vatican press office, Matteo Bruni has confirmed the news.

“The pope emeritus is now in the city of Regensburg, where he will spend the time necessary,” Bruni said.

He is accompanied by Archbishop Georg Gänswein, his doctor, his nurse and few security guards.

In a statement, Bishop Georg Bätzing, chairman of the German Bishops' Conference, said: “We are pleased that he, who had been a member of our bishops' conference for a few years, has come home.”

“I sincerely wish Pope Emiritus Benedict XVI a good stay in Germany,” Bishop Bätzing added.

The Ratzinger brothers were ordained to the priesthood on the same day, June 29, 1951.
