Hungarian Foreign Minister defends family, traditions of country at UN summit

SW News: Protection of the traditional family and promotion of the Christian heritage of Hungary seem to be the bedrock of the government led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who does not mince words when it comes to defending the traditional values and ethos. At a time when the nation is coming under attack from other liberal Western nations over its opposition to migrants as well as LGBT ideology, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has staunchly defended the traditional family, rights of children and national identity at a UN summit.
Addressing the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland on Tuesday, the minister staunchly defended Hungary’s right to remain as a democratic nation and to be free from any external interference. Szijjarto said that his country was ready for negotiations on specific issues and legislation, but at the same time Budapest would resist any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the nation. He said that the government is bent on protecting the rights of families and children, religious freedom and the Magyar identity.
The minister added that the values and rights of Hungary are increasingly being attacked by the liberal West. While stressing the need to protect them, he said that the government will not accept anyone questioning the democratic process.
Hungary and Poland are the two members of the European Union who are strongly opposed to accepting migrants from Muslim-majority countries. They have locked horns with Brussels as well as member states for their stiff opposition to the LGBT ideology and its implementation in the curricula.
Orban often stresses the need for Europe to rediscover its Christian heritage. Although he is a Calvinist, he had expressed his appreciation for Holy Mass at the time of the International Eucharistic Congress. His wife and daughters are practising Catholics.
