Irish court jails Christian school teacher for refusing to use trans pronouns

SW News: In Ireland, a high school teacher was arrested and put in jail for refusing to use trans pronouns. Enoch Burke, a teacher of German, History and Politics at the Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath, was imprisoned for disobeying a court order that prohibits him from teaching at the school. In June he had a tiff with the principal after he refused to address a student who is transitioning gender with a gender-neutral pronoun.
Burke cited his Christian faith and said he would not adhere to gender-neutral pronouns. He was suspended by the authorities and barred from teaching. When he continued going to school, the school secured an injunction preventing him from doing so. But when he showed up again on Friday, Judge Michael Quinn of Westmeath County issued an arrest warrant. Burke was charged with contempt of court and arrested on Monday.
On Wednesday, High Court Justice Max Barrett ruled that the temporary injunction against the teachers should remain in place, adding that he should also pay the legal expenses incurred by the school.
Burke said in court that transgenderism was against his Christian belief. “It is against scripture, against the ethics of the Church of Ireland and my school. I am a teacher and I don't want to go to prison. I want to be in my classroom, where I was this morning when they arrested me."
He added that had he complied with the court order, he would be violating his conscience. He also cited his love for his institution and his motto Res Non Verba, which translates as Actions, Not Words. Burke said that a teacher can only be suspended if he does something serious, arguing that he had not done anything
of that nature. He said his duty was to continue teaching and that was what he died. The teacher also made it clear that he was actually in jail "for saying he wouldn't call a boy a girl".
Meanwhile, in Christian circles, many believers have come out in support of the teacher and his bold take on gender ideology.
