SW News: Nearly 2,000 deacons in Poland walked together to the Marian shrine of Jasna Góra in Częstochowa. The Jasna Góra pilgrimage center hosted the sixth pilgrimage of Polish seminarians this June.
Traditionally, every five years since 1999, students and educators of all diocesan and religious seminaries in Poland pilgrimage to Our Lady of Jasna Góra. This time the pilgrimage occurred under the slogan "In the Spirit of Christ the Servant."
As part of the pilgrimage, the priests and the seminarians participated in a Eucharistic Adoration at the Częstochowa Cathedral, which was concluded with a Litany to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Then there was a procession from the St Families Cathedral, including diocesan and religious clerics, to Jasna Góra. The procession was combined with a rosary led by the chairman of the Commission of the Clergy of the Polish Episcopate, the Primate of Poland, and the Metropolitan of Gniezno, Archbishop Wojciech Polak.
The highlight of the pilgrimage was the Mass at the Basilica of Jasna Góra, which was presided over by the prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy, Cardinal Lazzaro You Heung-sik. In his homily addressing the seminarians, the prelate said, "This is our Cana of Galilee, where we can always be certain that we will be received and embraced by the heavenly Mother, who wants to raise you, future priests, in the following of Jesus."
The tradition of Jasna Góra pilgrimage began in the first half of the 15th century, when the image of the Black Madonna, which had been restored after a robbery, was transferred in a solemn procession from Krakow to the Pauline Monastery in Częstochowa.
