SW News: Thousands of Catholics thronged the streets of Poland on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, popularly known as Corpus Christi, on June 8.
The Press Office of the Polish Bishops' Conference took to Twitter to showcase the various processions that were held around the country. The central procession that took place in Warsaw was presided over by Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, Archbishop of Warsaw. Hundreds of people participated in the Eucharistic procession led by Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki in Poznań.
Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda, who presided over the Eucharistic procession in the city of Gdańsk, said: “The Solemnity of Corpus Christi is a great manifestation of our faith, an occasion to unite ourselves with Jesus Christ, who gives Himself to us as food in the Eucharist.”
Poland celebrates the Solemnity of Corpus Christi every year on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, while in some countries, including the United States, the feast day is celebrated on the following Sunday.
The feast of Corpus Christi was instituted by Pope Urban IV in 1264.
