SW News: On April 2, rallies honoring the legacy of Pope St John Paul II will be held in major Polish cities, including Warsaw. The march in Warsaw will begin on Palm Sunday at 11:00am from Rondo Romana roundabout and will end with a common Holy Mass at 12.30pm at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Świętojańska.
The rallies follow the recent release of the controversial book ‘Maxima culpa’ which sparked an outcry in Poland as it accuses Pope John Paul II of hiding cases of sexual abuse committed by the clergy during his tenure as the Archbishop of Krakow. With regards to the events that previously occurred within the nation, the official website of the papal march stated the following remarks:
"By failing to react decisively to the accelerating attacks against the Pope, we have allowed to arouse distrust and hatred towards the Catholic faith and the Church, especially among the most vulnerable young generation."
Further, urging the people "to bear witness to our trust in Saint John Paul II" it invited everyone to bring their family and friends to join the march defending the Pope’s teaching, "which is needed today even more than during the years of his pontificate.”
Among the organizers of the event is the Center for Life and Family, as well as many social activists who emphasize that the event will be an affirmation and defense of the legacy of Pope St. John Paul II.
