SW News: The iconic ‘Voice of the Unborn’, which symbolizes the in right of the unborn to live and was blessed by the Holy Father last year, was ceremoniously run in front of the cathedral of the Polish city of Olsztyn on Friday, October 1.
Weighing a whopping 2000 pounds and standing four feet high, the bell was ceremoniously sounded by bishop Janusz Ostrowski in front of the co-cathedral of St James. The bell was cast by pro-life organization Yes To Life Foundation, which is based in Poland. On one portion of the bell is a carving of an ultrasound image of a child with the words of Polish hero Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko - “A child’s life begins under the mother’s heart.” It also portrays two tablets. While one symbolizes the ten commandments, the other has the verse from Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law.”
While ringing the bell, which was blessed by the Pope at the Vatican last year, the bishop said that it is the voice of the right to life of every human being. The prelate also celebrated Holy Mass marking this year’s March for Life in the diocese. Because of the pandemic situation, the march through the streets was not held. Instead, it was marked by the ringing of the bell.
The bishop said the sound of the bell is intended to awaken the conscience of people and foster reflection on what they can do for those who cannot defend themselves.
