SW News: The Holy Father made a surprise visit to the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith in the Vatican less than 24 hours after his Apostolic Visit to the East Asian nation of Mongolia. Matteo Bruni, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, said in a statement that Pope Francis made a visit to the Dicastery on Tuesday, September 5.

During the visit of the pontiff, he had a meeting with Cardinal Luis Francisco Ladaria, the outgoing prefect of the Dicastery. The pope expressed gratitude to the Jesuit Cardinal for all the service he did to the Dicastery. He also showered accolades on the other officials of the Dicastery after meeting Ladaria.
Ladaria has been a member of the Society of Jesus since 1966 and it was in 1975 that he received a doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

Later, he became a professor of dogmatic theology at the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid, Spain, and at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He also served as vice-rector of the Gregorian University from 1986 to 1994. While serving as the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Ladaria was the president of the International Theological Commission and the Pontifical Biblical Commission.
