SW News: As the fighting between Russian troops and Ukrainian soldiers and armed resistance fighters continues, the papal almoner Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, who was sent to the war-hit nation by the pope, presided over an interfaith prayer service at the Lviv cathedral on Thursday. Members of various denominations and faith communities took part in the service.
Among those present were Metropolitan Archbishop of Lviv Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki of the Latin Rite and the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk. Orthodox prelates, including the bishops who accept the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate, took part in the prayer meeting.
After the service, the Cardinal said that “A divided Church is a scandal. Today, we were all united, everyone prayed together and asked God for peace, according to the Gospel.” The top prelate said that the choral prayer reminded one of the smoke of incense that rises to heaven. He said prayer is strength, adding that it should be passed on to the Ukrainian people. “Through faith, we can move mountains. I believe in that. Even more so to stop a stupid war,” he said.
Cardinal Krajewski is the papal envoy and he was sent with the mission of bringing the closeness of Pope Francis to the suffering masses and coordinating relief efforts. On the same day, the prelate visited the Ukrainian-Polish frontier at Rawa Ruska-Hrebenne and interacted with volunteers who are helping refugees. At night, he visited the parish of St John Paul II and prayed with the displaced people and shared dinner with them.
Meanwhile, Fox News has reported that a massive Russian military convoy that had dispersed has regrouped. The report showed satellite images of the past 24 hours and they were released by Maxar Technologies. The convoy was last seen northwest of Kyiv near Antonov Airport.
