SW News: The Geneva-based World Council of Churches (WCC) has invited all persons of goodwill to join them on August 15 for the annual Sunday of Prayer for the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula. The 15th of August is celebrated as Liberation Day in both Koreas and it marks the day when the Japanese colonial occupation came to an end in 1945.

On August 15, prayers will be held in both nations.

The North Korean Christian Federation Central Committee and South Korea’s National Council of Churches in Korea have composed a prayer for the peaceful reunification of both countries.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Korea which encompasses both nations had formed a special commission for the Korean People Reconciliation in 1997. The Holy Father has also appealed for peace and reconciliation in the peninsula during his visit to South Korea in August 2014 during Asian Youth Day.
