SW News: A human rights organization, Gideon and Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, said that at least 346 persons had been killed within three months in eight Local Government Areas in Nigeria's Plateau State.

According to the Christian Foundation, the killings happened between April 17 and July 10. The founder and executive director of the organization stated that there are currently 14 camps housing 18,751 internally displaced people in Plateau State. The rights group further called for the intervention of the government authorities.

In a report released on Thursday, Dr Gideon Para-Mallam said that out of the lot, over 200 lives were lost in the attacks on July 8 at the Mangu Local Government Area. As per the reports, 234 people were killed in Mangu, 39 in Barkin Landi, and 36 in Riyom, among other numbers.

The report further stated that there are 2,081 widows and 6,066 orphans under five years of age. It added that the Church of Christ runs the 14 internally displaced camps.

Dr. Para-Mallam said 6,603 households are currently affected by these deadly attacks. While stressing that the current harvest of deaths in Mangu LGA must be treated with the utmost urgency it deserved, he lamented the authorities' apathy towards the issue.

Para-Mallam said, "No country should localize and allow acts of terror on its citizens. Whatever the motivation behind these attacks on the Plateau, the fact remains – people are being killed in their hundreds."

Adding that the violence in the Plateau State largely impacts Nigeria, he further called for the end of violence.

Meanwhile, following the attacks, the lawmakers in the most populous African country have called the National Security Advisor to declare the killings a national emergency. Due to the mass killings by the armed bandits in the state, Governor Caleb Mutfwang declared a 24-hour curfew in Mangu Local Government.
