SW News: The abduction spree in Nigeria continues. In the latest incident, suspected Islamist militants kidnapped 36 people from a Christian village in Kaduna state on July 25.
As per the accounts of witness Narin Barde, “The Muslim terrorists attacked the community at about 9 pm, shooting at the people, and broke into their houses and forcefully took away the victims to an unknown place.”
The same day, a Catholic layman named Tony Udemezue was kidnapped at gunpoint at 2 am from his home in Tambuwal County in Sokoto state. Confirming the abduction, Rev. Chris Omotosho, director of communications for the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, in a press release said that Udemezue called police before the abduction but received no help from officers.
“There was no police response to the distressed phone call by Udemezue at about 2 am…. This is despite several phone calls he made to the police before he was taken away. Please let us keep him and his family in prayers,” said the priest.
On June 28, Islamist terrorists attacked Chikun County in Kaduna and abducted 16 people. Abduction is a daily saga in Nigeria. On July 15, Rev. John Mark Cheitnum of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna, was abducted from the parish rectory of Christ the King Catholic Church in Yalding Garu, Lere County. He was found dead on July 19. The same day, one Christian was killed by gunmen in an attack on a village at Janbaba in Giwa County in Kaduna.
