SW News: A blind seminarian, Michael Mithamo King'ori, and 5 other deacons were ordained to the priesthood in Kenya, for the diocese of Nyeri. The ordination ceremony took place at Kiamuiru parish in Nyeri on January 14.
It was presided over by the Most Rev. Anthony Muheria, the archbishop of Nyeri. Hundreds of faithful participated in the ordination ceremony.
Michael Mithamo became blind while he was studying for the priesthood. The names of the other newly ordained priests are: Alexander Murage Wanjiku, Joseph Waihenya Kirira, George Gitonga Wamuyu, Mathew Karimi Njogu, John Wanjohi Nyawira.
The diocese in Nyeri was established by Pope Pius XII in 1953. The diocese, which has more than 40 parishes, serves around 500,000 Catholics. Something similar took place in Portugal in 2019 when Deacon Tiago Varanda, a blind seminarian, was ordained to the priesthood. He was ordained at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro in Braga on July 19 that year.
