SW News: Cameroon is once more in mourning after a Catholic priest named Fr. Olivier Ntsa Ebode was found murdered in the country’s Lékié area.

According to local media, he was killed somewhere between the evenings of February 28 and March 1, after being persuaded to leave his home by men who said that one of their relatives was ill and needed Extreme Unction. Father Ntsa Ebode agreed to get in the car to go to meet the ailing person. On the way, he was murdered and then thrown out of the vehicle.

The body of the priest was found early this morning and taken to the morgue in Obala. The announcement of his death aroused great emotion among the faithful of the Catholic Church and the local community.

Cameroonian news website 237online said that Father Ebode was devoted to serving the poorest members of society. He collaborated with Father Jean-Jacques Ola Bébé, who had been murdered not long before Martinez Zogo.

Zogo, a journalist and radio host from Cameroon, was well-known for his radio program Embouteillage, which covered Cameroon's government corruption. Zogo was kidnapped, tortured, and killed in January 2023.

This crime will be investigated and the offenders will be brought to justice. Yet, Cameroonians look for tangible steps to address the culture of impunity in the nation and safeguard individuals, particularly those who serve the most vulnerable.

Father Ebode's terrible death serves as a somber reminder of the need of defending human rights and the welfare of society.

Cameroon is becoming more unstable as rebels and government forces clash in several areas of the country. The Catholic faithful and the surrounding community were extremely outraged by Father Ebode's murder. Since the perpetrators of this horrible act are still at large, calls for justice have increased.
