SW News: The 34th annual US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon has got underway in Washington. Taking place on the West Terrace of the US Capitol, the uninterrupted reading of the Bible will go on until 10 AM Wednesday.
This year for the first time, there will be a Congressional Bible reading in the Capitol on Tuesday, April 25. Members of Congress will attend this event and read the Bible aloud in the House of Representatives’ Chaplain’s office. Hundreds of people are slated to read passages from the Bible in several languages. From the Book of Genesis to the Revelation in the New Testament, the entire Bible will be read aloud for 90 hours uninterrupted on Capitol Hill.
The event is hosted by Florida-based Faith and Liberty. The outfit said they had procured the permission of the House and Senate to host the Bible reading marathon. The evangelistic group regularly interacts with elected officials and distributes Bibles and other materials. They are also at the forefront of hosting several events related to the Bible.
According to Faith and Liberty Vice-President Peggy Nienaber, the event is a celebration of the power of the Word of God and the right of all citizens to exercise their freedom to express their faith. She said that it was a privilege each year to attend the reading of the Bible on Capitol Hill, adding that it was taking place at a time when the nation is undergoing uncertainty and unrest. “The Bible is the foundation of America and within those pages, we find the only answer for hope for this nation.”
The evangelistic outfit was established by Dr John Hash and Dr Corinthia Boone and they started the US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon in 1990.
Founded by Dr. John Hash and Dr. Corinthia Boone, the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon began in 1990. Member of the House of Representatives from Louisiana Mike Johnson of the GOP said, “Church services used to be held routinely in the Capitol and it is always moving to hear prayers and hymns echoing in the Rotunda.”
