SW News: Call it a landmark win for the rights of parents in the American state of California. A school district has settled a lawsuit with a mother who said her daughter was given the gender identity of a boy without her consent. The Spreckels Union School District in Monterey County had to shell out 100,000 USD to settle the lawsuit filed by Jessica Konen.
She alleged that her 11-year-old daughter Alicia was given a new gender identity by the school authorities without informing her. The mother said that her child was told by her school that she did not know who she truly was within and that was the reason why she was upset.
Konen also said Alicia was allowed to use the boys’ restroom and male pronouns to refer to her so much that she was “socially transitioned” away from her biological sex. After finding out that her daughter was socially transitioned by giving her a male gender identity, Konen decided to file a lawsuit against the school district. In her case, she was represented by the Center for American Liberty. Speaking to Fox News, she said, “I am not going to allow this to keep happening to children. I feel that the fight, it has to continue."
At a time when Alicia made the transition, the relationship between the daughter and mother was strained. Konen said she deliberately used words such as “sweetie” and “kiddo” while calling Alicia making sure to avoid pronouns. She told Fox News that they are now doing great and are looking forward to working together to remove the parental secrecy element from public schools.
Alicia has since decided to identify with her biological sex after her mother filed the lawsuit. According to Mark Trammell, executive director of the Center for American Liberty, “this case is all about upholding the sacred bond between parents and their children”. He said, “parents have an inherent right to be involved in pivotal decisions concerning their children’s lives”.
