As various initiatives to foster greater faith in the Real Presence are underway in the United States of America, a parish in California has come out with something unique. St Joseph’s Parish in Modesto has launched Eucharistic Miracle Experience (EME) 2023, a groundbreaking multimedia devotional experience. This audio-visual initiative was launched on September 29 and it will go on until October 22 with the aim of reanimating the faith of believers in the Holy Eucharist.
This special endeavor is part of the National Eucharistic Revival undertaken by the Catholic Church across the USA. EME is an immersive experience employing audio-visual techniques to present viewers with a comprehensive understanding of the Blessed Sacrament and how it really is the Body and Blood of Christ.
The church created 10 Eucharistic stations modeled after the Stations of the Cross. Each station takes visitors on a fictitious trip with a holy monk. He has reached the end of his life and he is on his way to receive the Blessed Sacrament for the last time. His curious, skeptical nephew joins him quite grudgingly. During the trek, the nephew confronts the monk with questions regarding the futility of the effort, to which he responds by using Biblical tales to describe the Holy Eucharist. The story and each station show how God's purpose of redemption, which culminated in the Sacrifice of Christ, may be observed throughout the Old Testament. It begins with the Exodus and includes events such as God giving the Israelites Manna in the desert. All such events are precursors of the Blessed Eucharist, which is God’s greatest gift to mankind. The story goes on to describe how, during the Last Supper, Christ granted the apostles the power to transform ordinary bread into His Body and Blood.
At the end of the monk’s trip, the nephew sheds his skepticism and becomes convinced of the Real Presence. It is believed that this unique effort will convert a large number of doubting Thomases to unwavering faith in the presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.
