Indianapolis:
An estimated 80,000 Catholics are expected to gather in Indianapolis, Indiana, next year, to participate in the National Eucharistic Congress—a significant event devoted to reviving faith in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Scheduled to take place at Lucas Oil Stadium from July 17 to 21, this gathering marks the culmination of the three-year-long National Eucharistic Revival initiative launched by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on the Feast of Corpus Christ in 2022.
The first year of the revival initiative concentrated on the dioceses, while the second year, which commenced on July 21, 2023, is centered on parishes across the country. Preceding the Congress, a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage covering a distance of more than 6,500 miles will lead participants to Indiana. Remarkably, this National Eucharistic Congress is set to take place in the US after a long gap of 83 years.
The mission of the Eucharistic Revival initiative, as stated on its website, is "To renew the Church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist." The Congress boasts an impressive lineup of speakers, including podcast host Fr. Michael Schmitz, Word on Fire ministry founder Bishop Robert Barron, and Focus ministry founder Curtis Martin. Sponsors for the National Eucharistic Congress include Hallow, The Knights of Columbus, and Legatus.
