SW News:

Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles in the United States will lead a six-mile Eucharistic procession through the California city on Saturday as a part of the National Eucharistic Revival. The procession on March 25 will kick start with a Holy Mass at the historic Mission San Gabriel Church, which underwent an arson attack in mid-2020.

The procession will begin from the Los Angeles mission church and go downtown to another parish before returning. The organizers have urged the faithful to join the procession after signing up for the same. According to the archdiocese, the procession will take through St. Luke the Evangelist Church and back to the Mission San Gabriel Church. Thousands of faithful are expected to take part in the procession.

National Eucharistic Revival is a three-year project of the US Catholic Bishops to revive devotion to Christ in the Holy Communion. The Los Angeles procession is a part of the Year of Diocesan Renewal, a national revival initiative that began last June with more than 100 Eucharistic Processions in dioceses nationwide. Every American diocese is encouraged to host activities to advance and enliven an understanding of the Eucharist.

This initiative began after a 2019 Pew Research Study, which revealed that only a few Catholics in the US accept the Church doctrine that the Eucharist is really the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

For the first time in 83 years, the National Eucharistic Congress will be held in Indianapolis from July 17 to 21, 2024. Next year's Congress will be the 10th National Eucharistic Congress in the United States and the first since 1941.
