SW News: The annual Eucharistic boat procession along Bayou Teche waterway in central Louisiana will take place on 15th August, the Feast of the Assumption. The procession known as Fête-Dieu du Teche, also marks the 258th anniversary of the arrival of French-Canadian immigrants to Acadiana.
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the patroness of Acadiana. A Mass will be celebrated by Lafayette diocese Bishop Douglas Deshotel at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin prior to the procession. The 40-mile boat procession will be joined by the faithful on boats as well at the various stations along the bayou.
Confessions will be made available at different stops in mobile units. The day’s events will come to an end at 6 pm with Solemn Vespers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia.
