SW News: The eight Catholic dioceses in the US state of New York are gearing up to conduct a historic state-wide Eucharistic Congress from October 20–22 at Our Lady of Martyrs Shrine in Auriesville. The goal is to get people to believe again that Jesus is really present in the Eucharist and to make the Eucharist the highest point of their faith.

The New York State Eucharistic Congress is expecting upwards of 10,000 individuals who desire to grow closer to Jesus and be a part of this historic three-day event, according to Bishop Edward Scharfenberger of the Diocese of Albany and one of the chairmen of the event.

The Mass on Saturday will be presided over by Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York and the Congress will also include notable speakers, prayer periods, and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.

The Eucharistic Congress will take place in the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs, the birthplace of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha and the site of the martyrdoms of Jesuit priests St Isaac Jogues, René Goupil, and Jean Lalande. Both Tekakwitha and Jogues were well-known for their devotion to the Mass and the Eucharist.
