SW News:
More than 10,000 Catholics participated in the annual 'Walk with Christ' Eucharistic procession in Sydney on Sunday, June 11. The Eucharistic procession coincided with the Feast of Corpus Christi. It was sponsored by Catholic Cemeteries and Crematoria.
Brigidine College choir sang Tantum Ergo, composed by St Thomas Aquinas, at the beginning of the 'Walk with Christ' procession. The procession which started from Martin Place concluded at St Mary’s Cathedral with a benediction.
“On today's feast day, we're reminded that our Catholic tradition has preserved Christ’s own teaching: that He is really here, Flesh and Blood, Body and Soul, Humanity and Divinity, all present and accounted for, all given for our sake,” Sydney Archbishop Anthony Fisher said on Facebook. “Once we devour that mystery, we’ll find it is ‘the source and summit of the whole Christian life’. While all sacraments give us a share in God’s life, only this one gives us the very source of grace, God Himself,” he added.
The total number of participants in last year’s 'Walk with Christ' procession in Sydney was reported to be around 13000. The Archdiocese of Sydney has a Catholic population of more than 600,000. On Sunday, Corpus Christi processions in other prominent Australian cities including Brisbane and Hobart also saw the active participation of hundreds of Catholics.
