SW News: In what is seen as the latest move opposing the gender agenda, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida in the United States on Wednesday inked a bill into law that prohibits gender-affirming medical procedures for youth who are undergoing gender dysphoria.

SB 254 prevents any girl or boy under the age of 18 in the Sunshine State from undergoing sex-realignment surgery or taking cross-gender hormones if they are suffering from gender dysphoria. The bill was signed by DeSantis on Wednesday, May 17. During the signing ceremony, he said that it would “permanently outlaw the mutilation of minors.

"I mean they're trying to do sex change operations on minors, giving them puberty blockers and doing things that are irreversible to them," he added.

Senate Bill 254 mandates that homosexual adults have to get a written consent on the form of the Board of Medicine and Board of Osteopathic Medicine, whose members are appointed by the governor and have already initiated measures to curb the so-called transgender care. The new law takes effect immediately and it allows state courts to have jurisdiction over child custody battles over homosexual minors when a parent opposes a therapy that is being pursued by an out-of-the-state parent.

The governor also signed a bill on Wednesday that protects students and teachers in public schools from being forced to declare pronouns that do not align with their gender. His team tweeted that DeSantis passed a number of bills that "expand the Parental Rights in Education law, end pronoun insanity in schools, ban transgender hormones & surgeries for minors, ensure bathrooms/locker rooms are SAFE for girls & women, protect kids from sexually explicit drag shows.”

While addressing the media in Tampa, the governor said, "This bill ensures Florida students and teachers will never be forced to declare pronouns in school or be forced to use pronouns not based on biological sex.”

Meanwhile, a group of parents of homosexual children filed an emergency request in federal court seeking an injunction on Senate Bill 254. It was also criticized by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health which said that it impaired the doctor-patient relationship.
