SW News: A man hailing from California and armed with a Glock 17 pistol, pepper spray, tactical knife, and burglary tools was arrested a block away from US Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh’s house in suburban Maryland on Wednesday. He told the police that he was there to kill Kavanaugh, the officials said.
The 26-year-old called 911 and said that he had suicidal thoughts and that he had come from California to attack the justice. He also said that he had a gun in his suitcase that was unloaded and in a locked case.
He allegedly told the investigators that he was provoked to target Kavanaugh because the Supreme Court is likely to overturn Roe v. Wade, the judgment that legalized abortion in the country in 1973. According to reports, he was also angry about the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and believed that Kavanaugh would loosen gun laws.
The man, who has been identified as Nicholas John Roske from Simi Valley, has been charged with "attempts to kidnap or murder, or threatens to assault, kidnap or murder" the justice, according to police reports.
If convicted, he will face a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison for attempted murder of a United States judge.
He was taken into custody around 1 AM local time. By Wednesday afternoon, he was produced in court and is expected to be taken back to court on June 22.
