Ultrasounds to be offered to mothers considering abortion in Indiana
News Desk
Thursday, 07 Jan 2021
SW News: Pregnant mothers in Indiana who are considering aborting their unborn babies are to be offered an ultrasound of their children in the womb or the chance to listen to his or her heartbeat as part of their decision-making process. That stipulation follows the introduction of a new state-wide law on January the 1st. It requires an ultrasound to be performed at least 18 hours before any scheduled abortion. The mother can then decline, in writing, to view the ultrasound image or hear her child’s heartbeat. The law was first signed by the then-Governor Mike Pence in 2016 but has faced legal challenges ever since from pro-abortion campaigners. Those challenges, though, have now been dropped. In response, Indiana’s Attorney General, Curtis Hill, tweeted that the new law will, “empower women with knowledge” by giving mothers as much information as possible to aid their decision-making process.
