US House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan warns FBI chief Wray over targeting Catholics

SW News: Jim Jordan, the chairman of the US House Judiciary Committee, is threatening to hold Christopher Wray, the director of the FBI, in contempt if he does not reveal information on the bureau's emphasis on parents who are dissatisfied with school rules and its projected infiltration of Catholics who oppose abortion.
Ohio Republican Jordan wrote a letter to Wray expressing his discontent over the FBI's inadequate response to the subpoenas issued in February and April by the Judiciary Committee's subcommittee on the "weaponization" of the government.
Jordan informed Wray in the letter that his panel is aware due to witness depositions that specific documents exist, but they have not been supplied.
On February 3, the Committee issued a subpoena to the FBI for documents and information regarding its targeting of concerned parents who speak out at school board meetings.
Similarly, on April 10, 2023, the Committee issued a subpoena to the FBI for documents and information related to the FBI’s profiling of traditional Catholics as domestic extremists.
The letter stated that the Committee’s subpoenas impose legal obligations on the FBI to comply and produce responsive materials. Thus, their refusal to produce documents responsive to the Committee’s subpoenas—months after the return dates—is unacceptable. Accordingly, the Committee expects the FBI to substantially improve its compliance with the subpoenas by no later than July 25 at 12pm. If the FBI fails to do so, the Committee will take action, such as the invocation of contempt of Congress proceedings, to obtain compliance with these subpoenas.
The statement said the FBI did not produce an unredacted version of the memorandum or any documents or communications concerning the process of drafting, reviewing, approving, or disseminating the memorandum—information that the subpoena compelled the FBI to produce. Again, as an accommodation to the FBI, the Committee agreed to accept document productions on a rolling basis.
