SW News: The Virgen del Mar church in San Blas, Madrid, was desecrated on the night of October 24. The vandals broke into the church through a window, pried open the tabernacle and made away with the consecrated hosts.

The parish priest, Enrique Abánades, shared the news of the theft through his Facebook post. He said that the community is deeply saddened as the consecrated hosts have been taken away and “they don’t know what they will do with Him.” He also said that they are fearful whether this might happen again.

The Archbishop of Madrid, Cardinal Carlos Osoro, expressed his pain and condemned the act of desecration.

A Holy Mass was celebrated by him in reparation for the sacrilege on October 28.

Fr. Abánades requested prayers for the perpetrators “so that they may find themselves in God's merciful embrace and turn to good.”

The police are currently investigating the theft.
