Scottish pro-life outfit calls number of abortions in 2021 a “national tragedy”

SW News: UK-based Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) harshly slammed the total number of abortions that took place in Scotland in 2021, terming it a “national tragedy.”
In their annual update on Termination of Pregnancy Statistics released in May, the Public Health Scotland (PHS) revealed that the total number of abortions in 2021 was 13,758. The Director of Communications of SPUC, Michael Robinson bemoaned this appalling number saying that abortion is becoming increasingly normalized. “Propaganda telling women that abortion is ‘simple and safe’, coupled with easier access to abortion drugs, is driving up abortion numbers,” he added.
According to the 2021 abortion statistics of the PHS, the rate of terminations was 13.4 per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44. Of the total abortions, 99% (13,676) of them were medical.
As many as 11,598 unborn babies under nine weeks’ gestation were killed by abortion with pills. When it comes to late-term abortions, 127 unborn babies past 18 weeks’ gestation were killed. After being diagnosed with a suspected disability, 184 abortions took place.
Robinson said, “Scotland’s abortion figures show a devastating disregard for the lives of unborn children and the wellbeing of women. The statistics reveal a catastrophic loss of unborn life as a result of the Scottish Government’s dangerous policy on abortion.”
Scottish Women’s Health Minister Maree Todd announced earlier this month that the DIY home abortion scheme, which was introduced as a temporary measure during peak pandemic times, would continue to remain in place.
