UK Christian politician gets compensation from ex-employer who fired her for voicing Biblical teaching on marriage

SW News: A Christian mayoral candidate in Britain who lost her job in May last year for voicing her Biblical beliefs on marriage during the campaign has settled the lawsuit filed against her ex-employer after being given a befitting compensation, which has not been disclosed.
According to CBN News, Maureen Martin hailing from Lewisham in London included her traditional view on marriage in her election campaign. She pledged to cut through political correctness and simply say that the natural marriage between a man and a woman is the building block for a successful society and the safest environment to raise children.
An ordained minister, she shared her campaign brochure on social media platforms much to the chagrin of homosexual activists. They accused Martin of breaking laws and promoting prejudice and discrimination against those with homosexual tendencies. Her employer, L&Q, received several complaints after the brochure was posted online. Martin had 13 years of experience serving in the firm as a housing manager.
Company officials found issues with her previous social media posts in which she had commented on athletes with gender dysphoria and the rainbow flag of the homosexual movement. They then went on to terminate her contract for allegedly spreading “hate speech” just because her election manifesto was based on the teaching of the Bible on marriage.
The company mentioned in the dismissal letter that the views of Martin, who is also the president of the Christian People’s Alliance, could be “perceived to be discriminatory, hurtful and offensive towards members of the LGBTQ+ community, non-traditional families and abortion”.
She, in turn, approached the Christian Legal Centre of the watchdog named Christian Concern and filed a lawsuit against her former employer. She alleged that she was harassed, discriminated against and unfairly dismissed from service. After the news of Martin’s dismissal surfaced, 42,000 people signed a mass petition seeking an amendment to the Employment Rights Act 1996 to protect free speech.
With just a few days left for the first anniversary of her termination from service, Martin was awarded compensation for an out-of-court settlement of the lawsuit. According to her attorneys, her dismissal violated her right to political speech under Articles 9 and 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
