SW News: In the United States, members of the Grand Old Party are gunning to expand child tax credit to include even unborn babies. In the House, Representative Ashley Hinson from Iowa is leading the so-called Providing For Life Act to modify the family care system of the Federal Government.

Speaking to Fox News, Hinson said the bills are aimed at preparing the “policy course for a culture of life in the United States of America”.

She said if the bills are passed, they can make a difference to those in need by expanding “the child tax credit to include the unborn and providing additional support to working families, empowering women to care for their babies regardless of socioeconomic status or zip code and improving access to community resources.”

"These provisions, and others championed by the pro-life community, will ensure we protect the most vulnerable and make critical investments in the long-term well-being of our families."

Once enacted the refundable child tax credit will be expanded to a $3,500 cap for children aged five and under and $4,500 for ages 6-17. As per the bill moved by the Republicans, parents have to be working to get the credit. The bill also seeks to bring the unborn under the tax credit. For instance, if a child is born, parents automatically become eligible to claim the tax credit in the prior year apart from being allowed access to the regular child tax credit of the present year.

The bill proposed by Hinson also pushes for support programs on college campuses and at pregnancy resource facilities for expecting mothers. It also seeks to start "a federal clearinghouse of resources" and enhance support for social service programs at places of worship.
