SW News: With the US Supreme Court hearing oral arguments regarding the constitutionality of the Mississippi fetal heartbeat law in December last year, there is much speculation about the chances of the top court overturning Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion in the country in 1973. In any case, this has set the right ambience for pro-lifers to demand an end to abortion with renewed vigor and this is expected to be reflected in the several Marches for Life that will take place in cities across the country this year.

In Washington, D.C., thousands of men and women who support the sanctity of life are slated to assemble on January 20 and 21 for the annual March for Life, the largest gathering in the country. The March for Life is a peaceful and vivacious gathering of women, men, children and the youth to voice their support for the unborn and speak out for their right to live. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that it is one of the largest pro-life gatherings in the world.

According to organizers “Together we gather to celebrate life. We celebrate each and every life, from the moment of conception. We envision a world where life is celebrated and protected.” The motto of this year’s event is “Equality begins in the womb”.

Jeanne Mancini, the President of March for Life, as the US advances along the path to a more just society, one cannot ignore the discrimination against vulnerable babies who are seen as someone less than others. She said in order to create a more just society, equality should begin in the womb.

On Thursday, January 20, there will be a session named Capitol Hill 101. It is an educational session that enlightens pro-lifers about who is representing them at the National Capitol Building and whether they are pro or anti-abortion.  It will be led at the Renaissance Hotel in the nation’s capital by a panel of pro-life federal and state lobbyists and legislative experts. Admission is complimentary and participants can attend either the 11 AM to 12 PM session or the one in the afternoon that begins at 4 PM.

The following day, there will be a pre-rally concert from 11 AM to 12 PM followed by the rally. The grand finale will be the Rose Gala Dinner at 6 PM. It is an inspiring event marked by fine dining and live music during which invitees are sensitized about the mission of the March for Life and some of the most important pro-life issues.

Coinciding with the March for Life is the Youth Rally and Mass for Life organized by the Archdiocese of Washington. The Youth Rally gives an opportunity to young believers to gather and worship together and learn about the Church teachings on life.

This year, the event at St Matthew the Apostle Cathedral features noted pro-life activist, TV/Radio host and founder of Equal Rights Institute Josh Brahm. A much sought-after speaker, he has addressed people in six countries and 22 states in the US.  He has also written dozens of articles for LifeNews.com and the ERI blog. It will come to a close with a Holy Mass offered by Cardinal Wilton Gregory of Washington.
