SW News: The National Day of the Rosary of Men in Brazil was created in the Official Gazette of the Union on Wednesday, April 26, by the acting president, Geraldo Alckmin, and will be commemorated annually on September 8. It is the day on which the Catholic Church honors the liturgical feast of Our Lady's Nativity.

The legislation, authored by Deputy Eros Biondini, was approved by the Chamber of Deputies in June of last year and was sent to the Senate, where it was confirmed on March 21.

Biondini stated that establishing a National Day for the Rosary of Men celebration was justified due to the Rosary of Men's importance, the devotional significance it holds for Brazilian Catholics, and the strength of this movement in fostering a more just, united society committed to the dignity and spirituality of the human being.

Setting this day, according to Glayson Lozer, secretary general of the Brazilian Rosary of Men, helps further the group's purpose of evangelism through the recitation of the Holy Rosary in the search for holiness and the redemption of souls. Meanwhile, Lozer claims that in recent years, roughly a hundred men have participated in the journey on average.

After 86 years, Brazil's Catholic Rosary of Men is still going strong. Friar Peregrino founded it on September 8, 1936, in what was then known as Vila da Providência but is today known as Itabi. More than 2.5 million male members of the association recite the rosary together at least once a week in churches, halls, and public places all around the globe. Men from all across the country make a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of Aparecida in February to recite the Rosary.
