Devout Christian actor Jim Caviezel appeals to people to watch “Sound of Freedom” to raise awareness about child exploitation

SW News: Hollywood actor Jim Caviezel of “The Passion of Christ” fame is calling on people to express solidarity with him in order to expose the evil of child exploitation. The actor is starring in the upcoming flick “Sound of Freedom”.
“Sound of Freedom” is slated to hit theaters on July 4 and it narrates the true story of one person’s saga to fight child sex trafficking. It was on Thursday last week that Angel Studios came out with the first trailer of the movie. In the trailer, Caviezel, who portrayed the role of Jesus in Mel Gibson’s "The Passion of The Christ", said, “God’s children are not for sale.” He then appealed to all to buy a ticket and watch the movie to create awareness against this form of slavery.
The actor continued saying, “We know this is heart-breaking and it hurts to look at, but the first step in helping these children is hearing their story. Not enough people know this problem exists and even fewer people are willing to do anything about it.”
He said the objective is to inspire 2 million viewers to watch the film during its opening weekend to represent the 2 million children who are sold into trafficking around the globe.
According to the International Labor Organization, human trafficking is a 150 billion USD per year industry around the world and close to 21 million are under slavery. The actor said that Angel Studios has created a pay-it-forward program where one can pay for someone else’s ticket. “If the ticket price is stopping you from attending, claim your free ticket.” He also exhorted everyone to come with their families and watch the movie, adding that even teenagers should be brought to the movie house.
The flick is loosely based on the life of former American agent Tim Ballard who struggles to combat human trafficking after he rescues a little boy whose sister was a captive of traffickers and was packed off to Colombia. Appearing along with Caviezel are Oscar-winning Mira Sorvino of “The Final Cut” fame, Bill Camp who starred in “12 Years a Slave” and Jose Zuniga of “Twilight”. Produced by Eduardo Verastegui, the movie is directed by Alejandro Monteverde.
