California Republicans criticize Democrats for felicitating member of anti-Catholic outfit

SW News: In the American state of California, Republicans are criticizing their Democratic colleagues for felicitating a person belonging to the anti-Catholic outfit Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence on Monday, June 5.
Last Thursday, Brian Jones, the Senate Minority leader, sent a letter to Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins with the request that she cancel the invitation to the member of the group Michael Williams who is known as Sister Roma. Williams is slated to take part in an event to honor members of the homosexual community.
Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence comprises men with gender dysphoria who dress as nuns and mock Catholic beliefs. They are infamous for their blasphemous acts such as pole dancing on crosses and for words such as “Go forth and sin some more”. The group is also known for the Foxy Mary and Hunky Jesus contest that mocks the faith every year.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Jones said, "We feel that that’s just not appropriate for the California State Senate and that type of display doesn’t rise to the level that should be honored in the State Capitol.” The Senate Minority leader also blamed Democrats for showing blatant disregard for the 10 million Catholics in the state.
Jones added by saying that had this group spread hate messages to Jews, Muslims or Hindus, Democrats in the Senate would not have extended an invite. On the other hand, Atkins said the request of the Grand Old Party to withdraw the invitation to Sister Roma was nothing but a “misguided distraction”. A homosexual herself, Atkins said that Sister Roma and all other invitees ought to be feted for their contributions to the so-called LGBT community in the state.
She said in a letter that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence nurse no grudge towards people of faith communities who do not use religion as a weapon and to justify their homophobic behavior.
