SW News:
On March 26, the Day of the unborn child was commemorated by various pro-life organizations with a prayerful street procession along the streets of Sydney in Australia. The events of this day were hosted by Sydney’s Life and Family Institute.
The events for the day began with Holy Mass at 10.30 am at St. Mary’s Cathedral, noon Angelus, followed by the procession to New South Wales parliament. The Day of the unborn culminated with a benediction at the cathedral.
Led by Archbishop Anthony Fisher of Sydney, thousands gathered for the Day of the unborn child procession. A special guest speaker from the USA, Steve Mosher of the Population Research Institute, delivered a powerful address outside the New South Wales parliament building.
The Day for the Unborn which is observed annually coincides with the Feast of the Annunciation. In a social media post that announced the details of the event, LFI described the importance of this day as a “day of celebration and remembrance of the dignity of the unborn” and also a “day to remember the millions of unborn children whose lives have been ended by the violence of abortion.”
7NEWS Australia reported that a counter-protest had been planned by the pro-choice groups but was called off following a heavy police presence.
Currently, abortion has been fully decriminalized in all jurisdictions in Australia with New South Wales becoming the last territory to legalize abortions up to 22 weeks.
Through a social media post, LFI thanked everyone who joined them “in this incredibly important work to defend the sanctity of every human life.”
